I'm at work, waisting time, but this morning I pod-loaded a song called "Naked" by The Miss Alans (Bakersfield's finest band). It just came on the headphones and for a brief moment I really, really missed Los Angeles.
It was the weirdest sensation ever.

Hah...spent two days in LA this week. Went to Book Soup and saw a movie at the 3rd street promenade. Just like old times. Then I drove up the 5 to Sacramento. (Where I sit as I write this.) That's a really long drive. I can't believe I used to leave work in Costa Mesa at 9 pm and drive up to San Francisco. What happened to my stamina? Hey, if you get a chance you should see the movie "Brick". It's basically "Miller's Crossing" set on an Orange County high school campus.
I was yakking only last week about those salad days of going from Los Feliz to Santa Monica to Pasadena to Los Feliz 3 days a week.
Went to a Tobias Wolff reading tonight. Missed the Rizzoli days fierce.
Who would have thought those were the salad days?
The Miss Alans are from Fresno. Their first commercially released CD "Smack the Horse" is fabulous. After releasing several CDs, they broke up and three of the original members reformed as Super 5 Thor and released two CDs which are hard to find but worth the search.
